The iPhone is Finally Here!

It has finally arrived the iPhone is here! Long rumoured but nobody had predicted just how incredibly featureful the iPhone would be. I personally have watched the iPod develop from revolutionary new MP3 player that held a very large number of songs to tiny portable MP3 player holding thousands of songs with thousands of accessories available for it and iTunes supplying it's 2 Billionth song to another iPod user or the millions around the world. I hope the development of the iPhone will be just as exciting and entertaining to follow as the iPod has been and already there is talk of smaller and higher feature iPhones already being in development by Apple, a company who have gone from nearly rans in the computer market to global behemoths in the portable music market.

i got this because it wasn't covered by a window and it was black (the belkin is blue/grey? why). i was hoping somehow it was versatile enough to wear on the wrist, but ive seen no armband like that, so perhaps thats a tall order. made of springy, foamlike material, and some parts leatherlike. i quite like it. kind of hard to fit my phone into at first, but i could tell it would slowly stretch to accomodate.

Customer Review: Wow this exceeded my expectations

I ordered this using my Prime membership and opted for the overnight shipping. Total shipped was less than Contour charges for it on their site without shipping!



I knew from looking at their site that it came with a holster and belt ciip but I wasn't prepared for them to work so well together with the case. I love how I can snap the case into the holster in any direction. It fits in screen in or out and also with the home button to the left or right. It basically allows for unlimited placement options in the holster. The case snaps into the holster quite easily but with a satisfying and reassuring soft snap. It also comes out of the holster in an equally smooth fashion. The belt clip on the holster can be installed for landscape or portrait orientation of the phone on your belt. I prefer landscape so this was a welcome feature. Another cool feature of the holster is that it has a cut out area for the volume and silent controls to be operated while the case is in the holster. Finally and this is something I just discovered, the holster doubles as a stand for the iPhone. At least in landscape mode (I didn't try this in portrait mode) the holster and belt clip allow the case to stand at a nice angle. This works no matter which end of the clip is on the desktop, a nice feature that Contour does not mention on their site.



The case itself is a thing of beauty. The finish on it is silky smooth and it snaps together so perfectly that the seam between the front and back halves is not very noticeable at all. I really like the coverage that they gave all of the ports and openings on the phone. The headphone and dock plugs fit perfectly, and the membranes over the volume and power switches actually improved the feel of both for me. Overall the case adds very little bulk to the phone and gives it a sleek all black look that I really like.



This is a really well thought out and designed case, Highly reccomended!

Customer Review: Nice speakers that should be labeled for mp3 player not iPhone

I mistakenly bought these speakers thinking that they were specifically for the iPhone/iTouch. I was dead wrong. These are generic mp3 speakers that plug into your earphone jack and NOT the iPod interface. The problem with this is that although you are able to listen to your device, it is only for a short while as your batteries continue to drain. Normally not a big deal for listening to music, but watching videos or movies will drain your battery fast. Since one of the selling points of this unit is to hold your iPod in landscape mode, I was disappointed in it's limitation. I'll be back to work searching for good iTouch speakers that hold the unit in landscape mode AND charge the battery. Let me say again, This is not a set of iPod speakers, nor is it a docking station. It is simply a set of generic mp3 speakers.

Using this as my car solution for my iPhone 3G. When the package was delivered, I was a little scared, because nowhere on the roadtrip package did it say anything about iPhone compatibility.



I opened it up anyway and found that there was no dock adapter for the iPhone, luckily I found an included one that fits my iPhone + PowerSupport AirJacket case. Snug but fits well.



I went to the car and plugged it in and then the iPhone. I get an annoying "do you want to use airplane mode" message, and auto scanned using the instructions provided by Griffin. It found a few FM stations and I was able to tune in to my iPhone. Pandora, Slacker radio, and Wunderradio work just fine. Oh yah, the iPod part of the iPhone works too. I tried the 3.5mm jack to plug in my cassette adapter, but the quality was horrible. the FM is fine for me, I'm not terribly picky, as long as the signal is fine.



The neck is sturdy enough, it charges my iPhone and connects it to my audio system. My only gripe is that I get that annoying message when I plug in my iPhone... but that isn't really the RoadTrips fault.



I'll try to update this review when I get more 'car time' in. Goodbye XM radio.

Cisco sues Apple

Cisco accused Apple in a suit filed in United States District Court for the Northern District of California of willingly infringing its trademark when it announced the new iPhone at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco on Tuesday. Apple tried to get the rights to the iPhone name several times before but failed. Cisco and Apple are set to make a deal on a way they can both use the iPhone name. If Cisco goes to court with Apple, Apple is confident they will prevail. There are already several companies using the iPhone name, and Apple is the only one who is using it for a cell phone. Apple applied to use the trademark in the U.S. on September 26, 2006 using a Wilmington, Del.-based front company called Ocean Telecom Services.

If you have ever done a search on Google for a local business you may have noticed that at the top of the results page a small map containing little alphabetized balloons and to the left a list of links to businesses located on that map. This is the Google local search feature and every business should be taking advantage of this.

By visiting Google?s local business centre (google.com/local/add/) you are able to add your business location to Google maps. All you will need for this is a Google account, and if you use Gmail you already have one, if not signing-up is easy. Once you have signed-up you just need to fill-in your business address and information including a local phone number. Next you will need to activate your listing. This can be done in one of three ways. You can verify your listing by either phone or SMS (the two quickest) or by mail. After you have been verified your listing should appear in the next few weeks.

But this does not necessarily mean that your business will be in the top results for local listings.? You will still need to optimize your website properly for better rankings, but is a first step to marketing your business locally to both home, but especially, mobile users.

The first tutorial in this series covered using DockSwap to change your iPhone's Dock background, specifically replacing it with one that matches the Dock on the iPod Touch.

This was fine and dandy until yesterday, when a new version of SummerBoard (an app which allows customization of the iPhone's SpringBoard, or home screen) was released. This new version supports themes and various other settings, but most importantly it appears to prevent DockSwap from doing its job. Thankfully, we can now take advantage of SummerBoard's new theme support to set a custom Dock background, home screen wallpaper, or both.

Tips for Editing Your own DisplayOrder.plist

The plist is in binary format - on a mac you can just double click on this file and edit in the Property List Editor or use plutil -convert xml1 DisplayOrder.plist to convert to text version you can edit anywhere (use plutil -convert binary1 DisplayOrder.plist to convert back to binary plist - see plutil man page). Once you are inside the file, It's pretty self explanatory, but you can basically put any app in any position from 0-11 by changing the displayIdentifier variable. The rest of the icons just get shifted down. If you add more than 16 icons, the list does not scroll, however it has been reported that the SpringBoard.app has the ability to scroll more icons, perhaps just not enabled in this version.

The displayIdentifier property under each item in iconList needs to be a string with a value of something like: 'com.apple.mobilesafari' or 'com.apple.DemoApp', or 'com.apple.fieldtest'

Once your happy with your DisplayOrder.plist file put it into the same folder as your iPhoneInterface app, and type these commands in the iphone terminal:

Upload your Modified DisplayOrder.plist

cd /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/

putfile DisplayOrder.plist

Changing the icons on your main menu

To upload a new icon for the DemoApp:

cd /Applications/DemoApp.app/

putfile icon.png

You can do this for any app, just upload a standard 60x60 png file named icon.png to an app directory.
